SAFETY — FOUNDING PUBLIC BETA
MDN is navigation—not emergency response, legal representation, or command authority.
Use official emergency, crisis, court, counsel, command, medical, housing, or benefits channels when a situation cannot safely wait for an educational tool.
Emergency use
Do not use MDN for an emergency. If you may be in immediate danger or need urgent medical help, call 911 or use the nearest emergency department. If the emergency is a mental-health or suicide crisis, you can also call 988 and press 1, text 838255, or use Veterans Crisis Line chat.
Veterans Crisis Line
In the United States, call 988 and press 1, or text 838255. The Veterans Crisis Line serves Veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and people who support them. Overseas options vary by region.
Emergency suicide care and VA enrollment
Eligible Veterans and former service members in an acute suicidal crisis may be able to receive VA-covered emergency suicide care at a VA or non-VA facility even when they are not enrolled in VA health care. Military-service and medical criteria apply. Do not delay emergency care while trying to determine eligibility.
Support before a crisis
MDN's Support & Recovery surface can help separate clinical care, non-medical counseling, Veteran peer/community support, outdoor or retreat programs, housing pressure, and help for someone you are worried about. It does not diagnose, score suicide risk, or tell a user that they are safe.
Legal, court, and military deadlines
MDN's Life Situations surface can help identify the kind of professional or agency that may own a DUI, arrest, investigation, NJP, administrative separation, protective order, divorce, debt, eviction, clearance, or employment problem. It does not provide criminal-defense tactics, tell users to violate orders, predict outcomes, or replace military defense counsel, a state-licensed attorney, a public defender, victim advocate, security manager, or court. If liberty, a court date, a no-contact order, an election deadline, or an adverse military action is involved, protect that deadline first.
Protective orders and no-contact orders
Do not use MDN as a reason to contact a protected person, witness, alleged victim, or other person when a court, command, law-enforcement, or release condition limits contact. Follow the controlling order and get qualified legal advice about any uncertainty.
Investigations and evidence
MDN never recommends lying, destroying or altering evidence, evading lawful process, retaliating, or obstructing an investigation. Service members facing suspected misconduct should use the appropriate independent defense-counsel channel when available; civilian criminal matters should go to qualified criminal-defense counsel or a public defender in the jurisdiction.
Clinical boundary
MDN does not diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or determine the severity of a medical condition. It may organize information and questions for a healthcare professional. A normal test result is not automatically proof that symptoms are resolved, and MDN does not independently interpret raw clinical testing as a diagnosis.
Time-sensitive official notices
Some problems are urgent even when they are not medical emergencies. Court dates, protective orders, bond or release conditions, investigations, NJP or Article 15 elections, separation boards, recent VA decisions, proposed reductions, MEB/PEB elections, appeal windows, retirement or separation deadlines, coverage changes, debt notices, survivor events, eviction or foreclosure notices, and housing instability may carry deadlines. Use the date and instructions on the official notice and contact the responsible agency or qualified professional rather than waiting on MDN.
Housing instability and homelessness
Veterans facing homelessness or immediate housing instability should use current official VA, legal-aid, and community resources rather than relying on an educational pathway alone.
Restricted or government networks
Do not bypass organizational security controls, filtering, endpoint protections, or access restrictions to make MDN work on a government or employer-managed device. Use approved channels or an authorized personal device/network when appropriate.
Private information
Do not paste medical records, identifiers, passwords, claim numbers, police reports, charge sheets, court filings, protective orders, clearance details, or other sensitive information into a field that does not require it. Support & Recovery and Life Situations are deliberately designed to show starting resources without those records.
